Habitat Readers - Impacting Our Schools!
Last year, our Affiliate participated in a global program called Habitat Readers which focused on children, ages 5-8, and taught them about Habitat for Humanity and the need for everyone to have safe, decent and affordable housing.
During the 2015-2016 school year, we read to 394 children (K-2) at two (2) elementary schools and covered topics such as dirty water, natural disasters and sub-standard housing.
This year, we are happy to announce that HFHLC continues to implement Habitat Readers; and, we have added additional schools and grades with custom activities developed by our team. From global reads and making gingerbread houses to creating origami stars and building birdhouses, we are increasing our impact!
Schools participating in the 2016-2017 school year are: Catawba Springs Elementary, G.E. Massey Elementary, Norris S. Childers and Pumpkin Center Primary.
If you are interested in becoming a storyteller, sponsor, or, a school that would like to learn more about the Habitat Readers program, please contact our office.
